A snowmaking machine churns out a cloud of snow crystals Thursday morning on the lower slopes of Dollar Mountain in Sun Valley. Cold mornings Wednesday and Thursday provided excellent conditions for snowmaking on both Dollar and Bald mountains. On Baldy, in the background, crews have been working to make snow on a top-to-bottom route that can provide skiing and boarding on opening day Nov. 22. The snow guns officially got cranked up Sunday and the work is reported to be on schedule. “We are very confident on being ready for our targeted Thanksgiving Day opening on both mountains, barring any unforeseen circumstances,” said Mike Fitzpatrick, director of marketing and public relations for Sun Valley Co. In fact, an early-season race camp is again scheduled one week before Baldy is opened to the public. Sun Valley Resort will host a Pray for Snow party on Saturday, Nov. 10, at River Run Lodge (see Page 12).
