Ketchum resident Nicole Kashino, wearing bib No. 71, was all smiles Saturday during the running of the 35th annual Backcountry Run in the Adams Gulch area north of Ketchum. She has run at least the last eight years consecutively and ran her fastest time to date in the 10-mile portion, finishing 35th overall out of a field of 103 racers. She also finished third in her age group, with a time of 1:28:46, a full 10 minutes faster than last year. According to race director Bob Rosso, the run has been and always will be a community event, with approximately 25 volunteers in the background actually “running” the race. He maintains that the race, along with many other local events, is vital to the economy.
