Nine Wood River High School wrestlers continued to make progress during the Challis Invitational and Mario D’Orazio Memorial tournament Friday and Saturday at Challis High. Ririe was the overall team champ.

Winner of a junior varsity tournament Feb. 1 in Rupert, Wood River sophomore Asher Stern captured his first three matches at Challis to extend his winning streak to nine matches in a row at 145 pounds. He boasted 5:24 and 3:29 pins and won his quarterfinal match, but fell to the No. 4 seed in the semi-finals and ended up 3-2 overall.

Also winning two matches for Wood River at Challis were Isaac Gonzalez at 106 pounds, Michael Hurd with a pair of second-round pins at 120, Conner May with two third-round pins at 152, and Drake Humphreys with 23-second and 2:54 pins in the 170-pound class.

Grant Green was 1-2 at 98 pounds. Also competing were Jacob Drummond at 106, Daniel Servin at 160 and Sawyer Newhouse at 220.

Wood River traveled to Kimberly Tuesday and goes to Wendell on Thursday night.
