Chuck Gates junior golf results from Bigwood

Twenty-three young golfers enjoyed a perfect summer day while participating in the City of Ketchum’s 16th annual Chuck Gates junior golf tournament at the Bigwood Golf Course Friday, July 19.

Tournament director John Kearney thanked the Chuck Gates Youth Endowment, Roger Roland, Hank Minor of Bigwood Grill, Juli Webb and parent volunteers, Shawn Aicher and the Bigwood Golf staff.

Top results by flight:

9-hole flight: 1—Andrew Dale 38 (with an eagle on No. 7). 2—Analise Dale 41. 3—Jimmy Bailey 48.

6-hole flight: 1—Bode Braduf 25. 2—T.J. Gundrum 34. 3—Wilson Johnson 40.

SV5B swimmers compete in Boise long course meet

Several of coach Brian Gallagher’s SV5B swimmers competed July 6-7 at the Treasure Valley Last Chance Invitational in Boise. The two-day, long-course meter invitational sanctioned by USA Swimming was held at Boise West Family YMCA Aquatics Center.

Leading SV5B with first-place wins were Bella Tognoni in Women’s 50 breast (ages 11-12) and Angelina Allen in Women’s 800 and 1500 free (15-and-over). Overall results:

Women 11-12: Bella Tognoni 1st 50 breast; 3rd 100 breast, 50 back and 50 fly; 5th 100 and 200 free.

Women 15-and-over: Charlie Loomis 3rd 50 back; 9th 100 free, 100 back and 200 IM; 10th 200 free; 11th 100 breast.

Angelina Allen 1st 800 and 1500 free; 3rd 200 free; 4th 400 free; 6th 50 free; 7th 100 breast.

Men 11-12: Alfredo Echevarria-Quispe 3rd 50 fly; 4th 50 back; 5th 100 free; 7th 200 free.


Football officials sought for fall prep seasons

 Kenny Lively, football commissioner for the 4th District High School Association, is seeking persons to officiate high school and junior high school football games in the Wood River and Magic Valley area of southcentral Idaho.

Lively said, “Football season is fast approaching. We need people to officiate football. We need new recruits.”

Open recruitment has started for football officials. Training sessions are fast approaching. Those interested should contact Lively at 208-731-8919.

The Idaho High School Activities Association rules meeting for high school football is set for Tuesday, July 30 at Canyon Ridge High School auditorium in Twin Falls. Coaches will meet at 6 p.m. and officials at 7 p.m. All those interested in officiating should attend.


Montana pro Anderson wins RMSPGA Senior title

Tom Anderson of Laurel, Mt. captured his fifth Senior Professional championship in the Rocky Mountain Section (RMSPGA) on his home course in Laurel July 17.

Anderson and three other RMSPGA pros qualified to compete Oct. 3-6 in the 31st annual, $300,000 Senior PGA Professional Championship at Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa in Austin, Texas.

Anderson carded scores of 72-72 for even-par 144 to win $1,300. John Graham of Idaho Falls (77-72 for 149, $600) finished five strokes back. Other qualifiers for the Texas nationals were Ron Rawls and Jim Empey, both of Boise.

Tommy Sanderson, PGA, Director of Instruction at The Valley Club, tied for seventh place in the field of 14 finishers in Montana and won $500 for his 36-hole card of 79-78 for 13-over-par 157.
