U.S. Nordic Championships begin at Craftsbury, Vt.

     Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation cross-country team racers will compete Jan. 3-8 in the 2019 L.L. Bean U.S. Cross-Country Ski Championships at the Craftsbury (Vt.) Outdoor Center. U.S. Ski and Snowboard (USSA) will offer live streaming coverage, in partnership with Central Cross Country Skiing. Visit usskiandsnowboard.org.

     Race schedule for the 2019 L.L. Bean U.S. Cross Country Championships (short distance) is: Thursday, Jan. 3, individual start classic women’s 10k and men’s 15k races at 6:45 a.m. MST; on Friday, Jan. 4, classic sprint qualifications at 7:15 a.m. followed by final heats; on Sunday, Jan. 6, freestyle sprint qualifications at 7:15 a.m. followed by final heats; and Tuesday, Jan. 8, mass start freestyle men’s 30k/women’s 20k (10k/7.5k juniors) at 6:45 a.m.

     Prize payouts for the U.S. Cross Country Championships are $1,200 for first place, $600 for second and $300 for third.

     SuperTour points are also awarded, earning World Cup starts for competitors and potentially spots on the U.S. team for the 2019 FIS World Championships at Seefeld, Austria. The Junior and U-23 World Championship teams are also chosen, along with the U-18 Scandinavian Cup team.
