Billy Goat Loppet is Saturday at Sun Valley Nordic

Ketchum’s Backwoods Mountain Sports is again sponsoring the Sun Valley Ski Club Nordic annual event called the Billy Goat Loppet, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 19 on Sun Valley Nordic Center trails.

The Loppet has been moved to Sun Valley due to the low snow and limited parking at the Billy's Bridge Trailhead, organizer Jenny Busdon said. She said skiing at Sun Valley Nordic has been great with excellent snow and grooming.

Course formats are 10-kilometer freestyle on Proctor Loop and, new this year, a 5k distance on Trail Creek Loop for those who prefer a shorter distance. Post-race raffle prizes will be given, with everyone having a chance to win.

Registration on Jan. 19 occurs from 9-10 a.m., with racing at 10:30 a.m. Entry fee is $10 per person. Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation members may ski for free. For details call Busdon at 208-720-2540 or Ted Angle 208-788-9458.

Last year’s Billy Goat Loppet originally scheduled for the Sawtooth National Recreation Area was canceled by lack of suitable snow.
