Sign up for Thursday’s Turkey Trot in Hailey

     The 16th annual Turkey Trot sponsored by The Chamber of Hailey and Wood River Valley is Thursday, Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. from Sturtevants in Hailey.

     About 600 runners, walkers and strollers of all ages are expected to start from downtown Hailey and tour along the Big Wood River through the Wood River Land Trust’s Draper Preserve.

     Swag bags will be offered to the first 500 registrants. All participants are encouraged to pre-register online through Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. Visit

     Online pre-registration fees are $30 individuals, $15 youth and $70 per family.


Nordic Ski Free Day is Sunday, Dec. 1 in the valley

     The Blaine County Recreation District and Galena Lodge are cooperating with the annual Ski Free Day on Sunday, Dec. 1 in the Wood River Valley. Pending the arrival of snow, cross-country skiers can ski for free on all BCRD Nordic trails through the valley. Galena Lodge will offer “Learn to Ski” 30-minute clinics Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the hour. Use complimentary equipment during the lessons.

     Nordic Demo Day is Saturday, Dec. 7 at Galena Lodge.


SVYH Midgets romp at Jackson Hole

     Sun Valley Youth Hockey Midgets went 5-0 with a 41-1 goals against and won the first annual Jackson Hole (Wyo.) junior varsity tournament over the Nov. 22-24 weekend. Goalies were Matt Meyers (21 saves) and Clayton Elsbree (14 saves).

Local cross country runners make All-District, All-State

     Sun Valley Community School seniors Johnny Hagenbuch and Sydney Palmer-Leger achieved All-State recognition for their finishing times in the top 20 during the Idaho High School Activities Association State 1A cross country meet Saturday, Nov. 2 on a 3.1-mile Pocatello course.

     Hagenbuch and Wood River freshman Lizzie Lipman also made All-4th District for finishing in the top 15 during state-qualifying district meets.
