Tee it up for Nelson/WRBSA golf tourney

The James Nelson Memorial golf tournament will again be held at Sun Valley Golf Course.

It’s a fundraiser for the Wood River Baseball and Softball Association (WRBSA).

Date for the ninth annual scramble tournament is Saturday, May 18 at 1 p.m., with check-in at 12 noon.

Cost is $150 per adult and $75 for juniors 17-and-under. Online registration is at www.woodriverbaseball.com.

There are prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin, best and worst score. The cost includes 18 holes of golf with cart, appetizers and no-host bar. Non-golfers can attend for $10.

Raffle and silent auction items are needed. Contact Tiffany Orr at 208-721-8883 or email at orrfloors@aol.com

Staged as a spring fundraiser by the WRBSA for 15 years, the benefit golf gathering for the eighth year is named for longtime valley baseball supporter James Nelson, who died March 19, 2011 at 42.

He was the youngest brother of five boys plus four sisters in Ray and Marian Nelson’s Hailey family that founded the Ray Nelson Little League baseball tournament in the early 1970s. The Nelson family has been involved in local youth baseball development at every level.
