Middlebury College alpine and Nordic ski racers gave the University of Vermont frontrunners their first team loss on the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) carnival circuit on Saturday.
Middlebury amassed 850 points to nip UVM (848) at Rumford, Me. Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation alums were prominent in the results.
Senior Annika Landis (4th 5-kilometer freestyle, 5th 15k classic mass start) and junior Peter Wolter (2nd 10k skate, 7 seconds back, and 4th 20k classic mass start) were among the Middlebury leaders on the Black Mountain trails for head coach Andrew Johnson.
Bates College skiers Henry Raff and Carter Ros placed 26th and 34th of 74 racers in 20k men’s classic. Sophomore Madison Morgan of Middlebury was 29th, Lily Brunelle of Harvard 51st and Emily Siegel of St. Lawrence University 60th in 15k classic.
