During its executive board meeting Wednesday, July 18 at Lausanne, Switz., the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved seven new competitions for the 2022 Winter Olympics at Beijing, China.
Five are International Ski Federation (FIS) disciplines.
New competitions confirmed for Beijing are freeski big air (men and women) along with mixed team events in snowboard cross, freestyle skiing aerials and ski jumping.
A proposal for the inclusion of the alpine skiing individual parallel event to replace alpine combined will be reviewed by the IOC Executive Board at the end of the year following the outcome of the Alpine Committee evaluation and FIS Council Meeting in November.
The FIS Congress 2018 proposed other competitions to include on the Winter Games program, including snowboard alpine mixed team parallel and snowboard parallel slalom. But IOC did not approve them for the Beijing Games, Wednesday’s fis-ski.com report stated.
