Eric Chizum, The Angry Horse men’s 82-mile champion June 1 near Ammon, races here at the 12 Hours of Disco mountain bike enduro May 18 on trails near Salmon.

Riding for Sawtooth Brewery, 39-year-old Eric Chizum of Ketchum won The Angry Horse 82-mile Stud Run mountain bike race June 1 near Ammon in eastern Idaho.

Chizum, last year’s Baldy Hill Climb Cheeso Double men’s champion, paced all 50 Stud Run 82-milers June 1 with a final time of 4 hours, 18 minutes and 3 seconds. He prevailed by 3:37 over George Flynn of Fitzgerald Bicycles.

The gravel grinder victory by Chizum came less than two weeks after he won the 12 Hours of Disco mountain bike enduro May 18 on the Discovery Hill trails near Salmon. There, he covered 128 miles in 10 hours and 44 minutes.

At the Angry Horse, tying for 11th place overall in 4.58:55 was Sturtevants/Limelight Hotel racer Bill McCann, 50.

Placing fifth of the 11 women in the 82-miler was Ketchum’s Muffy Ritz, 62, of Bicycle Heaven. Ritz was 24th overall in 5.51:51.

Other local women cracking the top 10 in their gender at 82 miles were Chrissy Gove, 54 (30th overall, 8th female) in 6.18:19 and St. Luke’s rider Caroline Hobbs 44 (32nd overall, 9th female) in 6.34:57.

Steve Hobbs was 33rd overall in 6.39:35.

Also contested at Ammon was the 45-mile Chestnut Mare event for 44 other bikers. Sawtooth Brewery’s Kevin Jones, 34, was eighth overall in 2.57:25
