Sun Valley Youth Hockey stages its annual high school ice hockey tournament Friday through Sunday, Dec. 6-8, with 16 of the 21 scheduled games at Hailey’s Campion Ice House.

     Due are teams from the Boise, Idaho Falls and Jackson Hole (Wyo.) areas, along with the Park City (Utah) Miners. Each of the 10 teams will play three preliminary games, with placement games on Sunday.

     The Sun Valley high school team opens play Friday with its “Senior Night” contest against the Idaho Falls Tigers at 5 p.m. on Campion ice. Saluted will be eight SVYH senior skaters.

     They are captain DJ Gralenski, assistant captains Crow Macdonald and Huck Sprong, plus Sam Laski, Brandon Loayza, Andrew Nelson, Jake Rushton and Fletcher Stumph.

     Sun Valley plays two games on Saturday, both at Campion Ice House, facing off with Eagle/Rocky Hockey at 11 a.m. and skating against the Boise Braves at 5 p.m. Saturday.

     Other teams are Jackson Hole JV, Bonnecrest Wolves, Teton Valley Cutthroats, Skyline High School and the Canyon County Coyotes. Idaho Falls, Boise Braves and Eagle/Rocky Hockey are grouped in Sun Valley’s Division A.

     Sun Valley’s Midgets, second place finishers in their home tourney back in 2013 and 2014, have placed third in the December meet for three straight years including last year’s 3-1 finish in Hailey.

     The Boise High/Timberline T-Braves captured last year’s title in Hailey 6-4 in overtime over Eagle/Rocky Mountain. Jackson Hole won the SVYH tournament in 2016 and 2017.

     Championship game is Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

     This year’s Idaho Amateur Hockey Association (IAHA) state high school tournament is scheduled for Feb. 28-March 1 in Hailey and Sun Valley. The State High School tourney is March 5-8 in Coeur d’Alene.

 

SVYH Midgets romp at Jackson Hole

     Sun Valley Youth Hockey Midgets went 5-0 with a 41-1 goals-against and won the first annual Jackson Hole (Wyo.) junior varsity tournament over the Nov. 22-24 weekend.

     Goalies for SVYH were Matt Meyers (21 saves) and Clayton Elsbree (14 saves).
