Hailey’s Taylor Nelson, 14, is back in the West, playing summer fast-pitch softball for her Boise Blast U-16 team and attending a Rocky Mountain ice hockey camp June 8-13 in Colorado Springs, Co.
Yet she was on the East Coast during the school year, attending the prestigious Phil-lips Exeter Academy private boarding prep school in Exeter, N.H. as a scholarship student-athlete.
There, she competed in field hockey, ice hockey and softball while keeping up with her academic work.
A daughter of Matt and Angela Nelson of Hailey, Taylor has finished an outstanding rookie season for the Lion Rampant softball team (11-6).
The starting third baseman all season, Nelson batted .671 with five homers.
Nelson was the only Phillips Exeter player named to the Big East All-tournament team during the eight-team tournament May 18-19 The Lion Rampants went 2-2 and tied for third place—beating Nobles 8-2 and Milton 8-5, and losing to arch-rival Andover 7-4 (8 innings) and 3-1.
In the win over Nobles, Nelson belted a homer, double and drove home five. She clouted a three-run homer in the 7-4 loss to Andover.
Her grandparents David and Chris Nelson of Hailey were on hand to watch.
She will be 15 on June 17 and is looking forward to another productive year at Phillips Exeter, a coed prep school with over 1,000 students in grades 9-12.
