Sun Valley cyclist Richard Mull, 67, cracked the top-20 in the Hillclimb World Championship race Saturday, Oct. 19 on the famed Gibraltar Road ascent in Santa Barbara, Ca.
Mull captured the bronze medal in the Men’s 60-69 age class with a finishing time of 37 minutes and 55 seconds on a course featuring 2,500 feet of vertical climbing over six miles—and spectacular views.
He was 20th overall of 94 cyclists behind the winning pace of Phil Gaimon of Los Angeles (29:47). Mull was only two seconds off the pace of the winner of the Men’s 50-59 age class.
Mull said the steep and scenic Gibraltar Road course compares to the Alpe d’Huez from the Tour de France.
