The Hailey-based Spirit ‘n Motion Athletic School (SMAS) is preparing to host the second annual “Christmas Classic in Sun Valley” regional gymnastics meet.

The two-day event is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15-16 at the Wood River High School gym, Hailey. Around 300 athletes from Idaho and Utah are due to compete.

“We are beyond thrilled to bring this event and all the athletes and their families to our community,” said Amanda Wilson, SMAS head coach and event organizer.

She added, “We had 140 gymnasts when we first hosted the event last year, and 300 this year. The Elite girls will be competing Saturday night, and most of the local girls Sunday from 8:30-10:30 a.m.”

Spirit ‘n Motion is home to several of the state’s top ranked gymnasts (in Region 2) and all are excited to compete locally, said Wilson. In March 2019, SMAS will also be hosting the Xcel Idaho State Championship, which will bring over 500 athletes to Hailey.

Everyone from the community is invited to attend. The schedule for Saturday is Level 2 and 3 gymnasts taking the floor at 8 a.m., Levels 4-5 and Xcel Gold at 10:15 a.m., Levels 6-7 and Xcel Platinum at 1:30 p.m. and Levels 8-10 at 5 p.m.

Sunday from 8:30-10:30 a.m. are the scheduled times for Xcel Bronze and Silver gymnasts.

“Our high school is a beautiful venue and people love coming to this gymnastics meet. Come support our local gymnasts, and see some amazing athleticism from all these young women,” said Wilson.
