Blaine County Recreation District’s Youth Basketball league is now open for registration through Jan. 12.

The popular co-ed program emphasizes skill development, sportsmanship and fun. It is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade.

BCRD’s youth hoops seasons start in late January and end in March.

Registration fee is $65. It includes instruction, a team jersey, and a participation award. Programs are offered in Ketchum and Hailey.

Early registration is encouraged and will help organizers form teams and prepare practice and game schedules.

Players in first through sixth grades are required to participate in skill evaluations in an effort to create fair and competitive teams. Skill evaluations take place in the BCRD gymnasium at the Community Campus in Hailey.

Dates for evaluations are the following: 1st/2nd grades Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 5-6 p.m.; 3rd/4th grades Thursday, Jan. 9 from 5-6 p.m.; and 5th/6th grades Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 6:15-7:15 p.m.

There are no skills evaluations for kindergarteners because the age group is a clinic-style developmental program.

Coaches for BCRD’s community program are all volunteer and critical to its success. The registration fee is waived for coaches' children.

Interested in volunteering to coach? Contact BCRD prior to registering your children for more information.

Team sponsorship opportunities are also available. Sponsors receive their business name on team jerseys, as well as other acknowledgements.
