Carey High School’s varsity volleyball team earned wins over the Hansen Huskies and Camas County Mushers during this week’s Sawtooth Conference 1A District 4 volleyball tournament at Shoshone.
Seeded No. 4 in the eight-team double elimination tournament, Carey (19-14) opened up Monday with a 25-17, 25-23, 26-24 victory over No. 5 Hansen.
Leading the way were junior Kylie Wood (21 assists, 14 digs, 5 kills), seniors Felicity Black (5 kills, 13 digs, 2 aces), Bailie Morey (5 kills, 13 digs, 3 aces) and Kourtney Black (5 kills, 10 digs, 4 aces on 15 serves).
Top-seeded Lighthouse Christian Academy of Twin Falls downed Carey 25-8, 25-14, 25-16 on Tuesday and then captured the district championship Wednesday in four sets over No. 2 Castleford.
Carey stayed alive Wednesday with a hard-fought 23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 17-25, 15-10 win over Camas County of Fairfield. The Panthers moved on to face No. 3 Murtaugh on Thursday night, needing to beat Murtaugh and then Castleford for a State 1A tournament ticket.
