Fresh off his Nike Boise Relays 3200-meter distance run victory April 6, Wood River High School senior Will McGonigal stepped it up a little more during Friday’s 16-school Buhl Rotary Invitational track and field meet, at Buhl High.
At Buhl McGonigal won his second straight 3200m event, this one by 11.23 seconds with a personal-record time of 9:52.77. His Boise Relays finish six days before was 9:54.29.
McGonigal nearly pulled off a double, finishing a close second to Jerome junior Kobe Yost in the 1600m distance run. McGonigal’s time was 4:45.94 and Yost’s 4:44.41 on the Buhl High School oval.
The Canyon Ridge Riverhawk boys from Twin Falls (104 points) won the team race over Sugar-Salem of Sugar City (82.5). McGonigal provided 18 of Wood River’s 10th-place total of 33 team points.
Wood River sophomore Star Herron accounted for all the Hailey girls’ points with a fourth-place shotput toss of 31-9.5, a personal best. Kimberly’s girls (145) won the team title.
