The Carey High School varsity volleyball team picked up two important Sawtooth Conference match victories last week with the Oct. 19 conference tournament looming on the October horizon.

     Carey (15-12 overall, 4-2 Sawtooth) won on its homecourt 25-23, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20 over the Hagerman Pirates last Thursday, and also earned a road victory at Hansen 15-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-19 on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

     Junior Kylie Wood had 140 sets with 22 assists during the four games with Hagerman. Wood added 4 kills and 4 blocks, 10 digs and had 22 serving attempts with 2 aces.

     Others were senior Bailie Morey (16 digs, 5 kills, 10 blocks), senior Kourtney Black (7 kills, 5 assists, 12 digs), junior Shaylee Farnworth (6 blocks), senior Felicity Black (11 kills, 14 digs, 21 serving attempts with 4 aces).

     At Hansen, Wood piled up 108 sets with 32 assists and 4 digs. Felicity Black (8 kills, 26 serving attempts with 9 aces) was a factor at the stripe.

     Contributors included Bailie Morey (11 kills, 2 blocks, 15 digs, 3 aces), senior Noelia Cruz (10 kills, 8 digs, 2 assists), Shaylee Farnworth (5 kills, 5 blocks, 3 digs), Kourtney Black (3 kills, 8 digs) and junior Marika Versis (6 digs).

     The Panthers hosted the Sun Valley Community School for another Sawtooth clash on Tuesday. Carey goes to Castleford Thursday before hosting Dietrich Oct. 15 for “Senior Night” on the Panther floor.
