I am concerned: The telecommunications industry is rolling out 5G wireless technology that emits radiation. Radiation is proven to cause cancer, DNA damage and a host of serious health concerns. Remember (Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, Fukushima). Harm from excessive radiation is the same no matter the source. A generation has lost this knowledge, as it has been buried under the ease of and addiction to shiny devices. The evidence that radio frequency (RF) radiation is harmful to all life (humans, animals, trees, birds, insects) is overwhelming.

More than 25,000 scientists have spoken about the dangers of 5G. Yet the telecoms have commissioned no independent studies showing its safety. Implementation involves placing a tower every 500 feet, everywhere. Imagine millions and millions of towers emitting harmful radiation 24/7, 365 days a year all over the planet. Imagine a tower outside your child’s bedroom zapping the tender tissues of your sleeping baby. Electromagnetic radiation at the 4G level is serious right now. 5G will increase by orders of magnitude the damage to life.

In 1980, the residents of Blaine County voted on a ballot initiative to make Blaine County the second Nuclear Free County in the U.S., disallowing transportation, nuclear facilities, mining of uranium or storage of nuclear waste. Long ago, we wisely chose to maintain a healthy community free of nuclear radiation accidents because we knew well the dangers living only 60 miles as the crow flies from the Idaho National Laboratory.

Now we face an existential threat. Join your voices in the campaign to Stop 5G in 5B. Write to municipal and county elected officials. Come to the Ketchum City Council meeting at 4 p.m. on Feb. 3. Ask the council for a moratorium on 5G until scientists independent of the telecoms can prove it safe.
