Idaho Fish & Game is tired of dealing with the concerned citizens of the Wood River Valley, so they have issued 5,000 hunting tags for cow elk, which are now pregnant. The hunt began Nov. 1 and will end on Dec. 7. This is exactly near extinction of herds from east and south of our valley. This would greatly reduce Fish & Game’s problem of wintering and starving elk.

It does not help our valley that pressure from the agricultural sector citing depredation of their crops will result in a valley devoid of elk. If Fish & Game have their way, wildlife will become a distant memory or urban myth in our valley. These animals are a gift for our children and others who enjoy nature up close. We should not allow Fish & Game’s indifference to shape our valley.
