Nineteen more children are dead.
In my 25 years of teaching, I have watched Columbine, Newtown, Aurora, Virginia Tech, Las Vegas, Buffalo, El Paso, Boulder and more. One part of me aches with sorrow for the lost lives and the loved ones left behind to mourn for the rest of their lives. But the other part of me is simply angry.
Mike Simpson, when in Heaven’s name are you going to stop kowtowing to the gun lobby and do what you know is right?
Just look at the numbers: In the 1970s, when we were growing up, an average of eight Americans died in mass shootings each year. Between 2010 and 2019, that number was 51, a 600% increase! Meanwhile, in the last 30 years gun sales have tripled. We are awash in weapons of war, and we are burying ever more of our children. Clearly, those guns have not made us safer.
As a gun owner, the mother of sportsmen, and a first-grade teacher in a small-town school, I understand Western culture and the importance of the Second Amendment. But do we love our guns more than our children? Must we wait until it’s our own kids falling to a bullet before we decide enough is enough?
I’m sick of hearing that the Second Amendment means no restrictions. Nonsense! The reality is that we have had gun restrictions for centuries. Indeed, Old West towns often required anyone entering a community to leave their guns in lockup until they were ready to leave!
As conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in District of Columbia v. Heller in 2008, “Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited. (It is) not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.”
Moreover, poll after poll has shown that the majority of Americans support reasonable gun restrictions, like a ban on automatic weapons, universal background checks that include gun show sales, and holding the gun lobby and gun manufacturers to account when their products are used to murder innocent Americans. As a member of Congress I would support these reasonable measures.
The gun lobby likes to say that restrictions like the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban didn’t work, but it did. Gun massacres of six or more decreased by 37% for the decade the ban was active, then shot up 183% during the decade following its expiration.
So, Mike Simpson, don’t tell me you can’t do anything. Every time you tout your high ratings from the NRA, you have more blood on your hands. It’s time to start washing it off.
Wendy Norman of Rigby is the Democratic candidate for Idaho’s 2nd Congressional seat.

Far too many Republican senators are on the teat of the NRA. It has turned the US Senate Chambers into a den of whoremongering prostitutes. That includes the Idaho statehouse as well, not to mention Texas:
"Nearly half of Republican voters think the US just has to live with mass shootings, according to a poll released in the aftermath of the Texas elementary school murders last month and as politicians in Washington negotiate for gun reform. The CBS and YouGov poll returned familiar results, including 62% support for a nationwide ban on semi-automatic rifles, the kind of gun used in Uvalde, Texas. ... But clear national support for a ban on such rifles or changes to purchasing ages and background checks is not mirrored in Congress. Most Republicans, supported financially by the powerful gun lobby, remain implacably opposed to most gun reform."

Biden is the one with blood on his hands.
Biden has blood on his hands.
For those of you who are Second Amendment fundamentalists:
There are around 130,000 K-12 schools in America; there are close to 40,000 supermarkets; there are many other venues that might offer prey for mass killers. So protecting all these public spaces Republican-style, would require creating a heavily armed, effectively military domestic defense force — heavily armed because it would face attackers with body armor and semiautomatic weapons. That domestic defense force would be at least as big as the U.S. Marine Corps.
The idea of training teachers, whose primary job is to educate students on lessons like math and English, as an extra security defense against potential school shooters is not new and such training programs have existed for years in some form in many states.
There is also little evidence to suggest arming school staff actually makes schools safer. On the contrary, school safety advocates warn about the potential risks of encouraging teachers to carry guns at school — increasing the number of guns in schools, even if they were put in the hands of responsible educators, may increase the likelihood of gun-related harm. Studies have also shown a direct correlation between the presence of guns and increased gun violence.
Proposals to arm school teachers and staff have not received much support from educators, either. A survey of more than 2,900 teachers across the country by a researcher at California State University found that 95.3 percent of respondents believed teachers should not be carrying guns in the classroom.
Bringing more guns into schools makes schools more dangerous and does nothing to shield our students and educators from gun violence, We need fewer guns in schools, not more. Teachers should be teaching, not acting as armed security guards.
The effort to limit the availability of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines to deranged 18-year old makes sense. It will take 40 years to turn this thing around, probably, two generations. Nobody is taking about confiscating guns from stable, law-abiding people.

And counting...
Wendy, the conservative GOP Second Amendment fundamentalists in the US Senate and the Idaho statehouse have turned their chambers into red light districts, and their so-called "public servants" have become reptilian denizens who are skillfully trading the lives of the constituents who elected them for money. Yes, Mike Simpson is a cowardly prostitute and the NRA is his pimp, with Brad Little and his despicable, self-righteous and hypocritical acolytes right there in bed with him, plying their trade. It's an orgy that has been raging for far too long and it must stop.
A May 26 article (see link below) in The Guardian newspaper written by a father whose daughter was murdered in a school shooting (Dunblane, UK, 1996), addressed the difference between gun violence in the US and the UK. It had this to say : “The figures are shocking. Deaths due to gun violence total more than 17,000 so far this year [2023] alone [in the US] , thousands of them homicides (just four gun homicides have been reported in Great Britain in 2022). In 2020, 999 children under 11 were killed or injured in shootings in the US. Gun violence remains one of the major causes of death, indeed the leading one among the under-20s."
Take heart, Wendy, despite what dribbles out of the rabid little mouths of heartless, brain-damaged, right-wing local cretins like @C'monsenescence (sic), the laws will slowly change. They have to. The lives of far too many children are at stake, along with the memories of countless men, women and children who have been murdered over these many years..

Better the devil you know than the angel you don't know. Simpson will not let democrats down. His devious old Washington connections with run deep in Idaho and American political failure.
The Constitution gives you the right to own a weapon, but not shoot someone, burden of proof lies on you. And I do not believe the founding fathers ever imagined that AR 15's would exists. DUH !
Thank God this Wendy Norman of Rigby idiot has no chance to get elected! Read our Constitution that you, Wendy, would hypothetically (in your dreams) have been swearing to uphold; THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED! Contrary to your demented leader's comments (Biden), the 2nd Amendment does indeed allow citizens to own cannons. It shall not be infringed! The courts have illegally added restrictions to the 2nd, but those may at some point in the near future be going the way of Roe v Wade. We'll see. Instead of complaining about guns, I would suggest you focus on school security. But then you wouldn't be getting as big of campaign donations for this controversial issue, would you. We know. It's all about the money, honey.
