Robert Earl Nero (Bob), loving father and long-term member of the community, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 2, 2020.
He was born in Whittier, Calif., on July 28, 1951, to William Chandler Nero and Marion Elizabeth Twitchell. He graduated from La Serna High School class of 1969, and then from California State University, Fullerton class of 1974. In 1975, Bob decided to look at different places to live in the West. On his way from Montana, his van broke down outside Stanley. He lived in Ketchum with his best friend from his childhood while his van was being fixed, fell in love with Sun Valley, and stuck around for the rest of his life. He worked in the beverage distribution business and residential property management and most knew him as their local insurance agent.
He is survived by his children, Katherine S. Nero, William P. Nero and Michael C. Nero, and brothers, William C. Nero Jr. and Stanley M. Nero. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Patricia J. Nash.
Bob was very involved in his community. He was a member of Rotary International, belonged to the Presbyterian Church of the Bigwood, oversaw the Agape Fund at the church for many years and was president of the Ketchum/Sun Valley Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed skiing on Baldy, walking his dog, Shoeshine, biking and boating with his kids at Redfish Lake. Among many things he will be remembered for are his kindness, his sense of humor and his strength. He was a great man who will be missed by many.
His memorial service will be held on Jan. 18, at noon at the Presbyterian Church of the Bigwood (100 Saddle Road, Ketchum, Idaho) with a gathering and refreshments to follow.
