Phil Merle Ramsey passed away unexpectedly at home in Pine, Idaho, on May 12, 2019.

Phil was born in Sun Valley in 1957 and grew up in the Wood River Valley. He moved away several times, but always returned home to the valley. Upon retirement, he joked about moving to Puerto Rico, but Idaho was home and even the warmer weather couldn’t tempt him.

Phil was a craftsman when it came to woodwork. He built his own house among many other buildings in the valley during his career in the construction industry. His hobbies included photography, fly fishing, and hunting. As an avid hunter and outdoorsman, he enjoyed the Idaho outdoors every chance he could. He especially loved trips with his pack horse and mule.

Phil was a jokester and would tease everyone. He was also compassionate and always looked out for others, especially animals. His pets, Homer, Cisco, Mudslide, Avalanche, Dooby and Smoke, meant the world to him.

Phil was preceded in death by both of his parents, Joy Buttram and Cecil Don Ramsey, as well as a sister, Gail Farwell. He is survived by his brother, Gene, and sister, Darcie; his children, Melissa and Luke (Jackie); and grandchildren, Dillon, Parker, Luna and Waylon.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life for Phil on Sept. 7, from 1-3 p.m. at Memorial Park in Bellevue, Idaho.
