Dr. Peter Henry Andrews, Vancouver, B.C., dentist and honored member of the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 30, at St. Paul’s Hospital after a short illness. Peter faced his diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia courageously and chose his path with peace, dignity and determination.
He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 54 years; children, Kirstin (Stephen, deceased), Meagan, Cameron (Jessica) and Danielle (Hamish); grandchildren, Teagan and Kiera; mother, Catherine; and brother, Gordon (Judy).
Throughout his life Peter enthusiastically embraced new adventures and made many friendships along the way. While alpine skiing and dentistry were two driving forces, they were also the conduit to sharing many of his other passions with friends and family, including boating coastal waters of B.C., waterskiing, flying his Piper Aztec, family vacations in Kauai, skiing in Sun Valley and Whistler, photography and enjoying good food and good wine. All who had the fortune to meet Peter were touched by his giving spirit and enthusiasm. Peter was kind and generous with his time and made friends with and influenced the lives of the many people he met. He will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life will be held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (3811 Point Grey Road, Vancouver, B.C.) on Sunday, Sept. 15, from noon to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Aplastic Anemia & Myelodysplasia Association of Canada at aamac.ca/donate/ in memory of Dr. Peter Andrews.
