Michel Barton, age 91, of Sun Valley, Idaho, passed peacefully on Oct. 8, 2019.
Michel was born in Paris, France, in 1928, and spent his early years in his beloved city. He lived through World War II and witnessed the Americans liberate the city with the ringing of the bells of Notre Dame. In 1946 he left war-torn France for the United States and a better life. Michel applied for citizenship and served in the U.S. Army in Korea, earning two Bronze Stars among other medals. He sailed the South Pacific while working as a bartender on the Matson Lines, where he met the love of his life, Helga, a beautiful stewardess. They married on April 3, 1957, and settled in Sacramento, eventually moving to Las Vegas. Michel became a maître d’ at the Las Vegas Hilton showroom and had a talent for investing in real estate. He sent his son, Mark, to a tennis camp in Sun Valley and fell in love with the town. It reminded them of a European mountain village. Sun Valley became his happy home beginning in 1981, sharing many beautiful memories with family and friends over the years.
Michel is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helga Barton, and beloved children, Karen Kiernan, Jessica Schaeman and Mark Barton. His grandsons, David and Matthew Schaeman, along with many loving and supportive friends, also survive him.
