Jackie Maritz passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in St. Louis, Mo., on June 15, 2019, at the age of 75. Jackie was a longtime resident of Sun Valley, having built a second home here in 1993 with her husband, the late William E. Maritz.

Jackie attended Georgetown Visitation Junior College and graduated from St. Louis University in 1965. She married Robert Pommer Jr. in 1964 and had two children, Bobby and Laura.

Always a trailblazer, Jackie began her successful career in interior design in 1975, eventually opening a decorating and antiques store in Ladue, Mo. In her lifetime, Jackie decorated homes for numerous clients across the country. Clients were drawn to her creativity, vision, sense of style and directness.

She married Bill Maritz in 1993 and shortly thereafter built their retirement home in Sun Valley, where they hoped to spend many happy years together. Bill passed away in 2001, far too early for them to thoroughly enjoy Sun Valley together, but Jackie stayed to build a community of lifelong friends. As an avid athlete with a love of the outdoors, Jackie took full advantage of everything the Wood River Valley has to offer. She especially enjoyed taking long hikes with family and friends.

A true force of nature, Jackie made everything a party with her infectious enthusiasm, sense of adventure and boundless energy. More than anything, she knew how to throw a good party. For her 70th birthday, she placed a wanted ad in the Mountain Express with the headline addressed “To All Those Born in 1943,” followed by the date and time to show up at Grumpy’s, and the announcement in bold “Drinks on Jackie.” Jackie enjoyed her final years in Palm Beach, Fla., where she loved birding and playing bridge at the Bath and Tennis and Everglades clubs.

At her core, Jackie was a fighter who lived each day to the fullest. In the fall of 2018, she was diagnosed for the second time in her life with terminal cancer. Never one to feel sorry for herself, Jackie lived her last months and days as she did her entire life, enjoying laughing in the company of family and close friends, rebellious to the very end. Jackie’s joie de vivre will be missed by all who had the pleasure of spending time with her.

Jackie is survived by her two children, Robert “Bobby” Pommer (Virginia) and Laura Pommer Perry (Steven); her six grandchildren, Will, Henry and Lucey Pommer, and Ted, Willie and Jack Maritz; her siblings, Patty Robben, Toni Moran and Paul Guignon (Ann); her sister-in-law, Terry Guignon (Jimmy); and her stepson, Steve Maritz (Jeanne).

The funeral mass was conducted at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Clayton, Mo., on June 20. Friends are invited to share memories or write a condolence at luptonchapel.com.
