Camille Dodd McCray passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 97, surrounded by her loving family, on July 11, 2019, in Indian Wells, Calif.

She was born in West Helena, Ark., on May 17, 1922. Camille graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Nursing in Memphis, Tenn., class of 1943. After nursing school, she worked at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Calif. It was there that she met her husband, Maurice Coyle McCray. In 1947 they married in North Hollywood, Calif. She raised her family in Toluca Lake, Calif., and later, Newport Beach, Calif. She visited Sun Valley, Idaho, often, and in 1975 it became her second home. She was a member at Eldorado Country Club in Indian Wells, Calif., where she also lived from 1966 until her death.

Camille immensely enjoyed traveling and cruised the seas with family and friends. She was the steward of the world to her family and took them to see and appreciate many different countries. She enjoyed attending Royal Ascot in England and celebrating the Kentucky Derby. She was passionate about her friendships, genealogy, history, art and theater. She loved entertaining and lived her life to the fullest. Camille was extremely generous in her philanthropic endeavors, which were immense and included colleges, hospitals, new coats for kids in Idaho, the Globe Theater in London and any time someone was in need.

She was deeply loved and will be missed by her surviving five children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

At her request, no public service will he held. A celebration of her life will take place in the fall.
