Blaine County School District accepted the resignation of Trustee Kevin Garrison on Tuesday, one day after he voluntarily stepped down in a letter to Chairman of the Board Ellen Mandeville.
Now, the remaining members are looking to Trustee-elect Lara Stone to fill the Zone 5 seat he vacated.
Stone is the only candidate on the Nov. 5 ballot of Garrison’s old seat. She’ll be on the school board one way or another—but it’s up to her future colleagues whether that happens at their next regular meeting in November, or when her elected term begins January.
“It’s an unexpected situation, to have a vacancy while we have a trustee-elect waiting,” Mandeville said after the Tuesday meeting. “At this point, I don’t know what’s appropriate to say,”.
Garrison, who was not seeking re-election in November, opted to leave the office following his arrest last Friday on two alcohol-related misdemeanors.
