Dollar Mountain will get in on the 2019-20 ski season this Friday, just in time for a festive weekend at Sun Valley Resort.
Company spokeswoman Kelli Lusk said three terrain parks, four lifts and five runs are expected to be ready when the ropes drop. On Saturday, young skiers and riders can hang with Sunny the Bear before getting on the lifts, then, from 11 a.m. to noon, write letters to Santa inside Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge.
Looking for more terrain? Seattle Ridge and its day lodge on Dollar’s big brother are scheduled to open on Saturday, too. Afterward, skiers can catch some live music at River Run. The Mia Edsall Band will play Friday, Dec. 13, and New Transit will follow on Saturday, Dec. 14. Both shows start at 2:30 p.m.
For a different sort of skiing, the Sun Valley Nordic Center opened yesterday, with 12 kilometers of groomed trails ready to glide. More will be added as conditions permit, Lusk said.
Finally, Sun Valley Village launches into the holidays on Saturday, with its annual tree lighting ceremony starting at 5:30 p.m., complete with carolers, Santa, hot cocoa and cookies.
