Rotarun will ring in 2020 on Tuesday with its first evening of skiing under the lights west of Hailey on Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 5-8 p.m.
The New Year’s Eve opening launches the ski hill’s 71st season—and first with manmade snowmaking. Head out Croy Canyon for a free night on the slopes, plus a bonfire, ski movies, food from KB’s truck, and a torchlight parade.
Rotarun’s no-charge public skiing, which will hit the hill under the lights from 5:30-8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays this winter, starts this week.
“The community is rallying in a big way,” said Scott McGrew, Rotarun’s general manager and executive director of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation. “The lifts will be spinning, and the hill’s skiing great.”
Further north, Sun Valley Resort is opening Dollar Mountain for New Year’s Eve festivities. The family-friendly party ($40 for adults, $30 for kids 12 and under) includes skiing and riding on Quarter Dollar, face-painting, a photo-booth and fireworks at 9 p.m.
