Ketchum resident Lily Ann Dean, 15, was killed in a rollover accident Saturday.
According to the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred late afternoon on state Highway 75 near Lake Creek Drive north of Ketchum. Two other youths in the vehicle, a 16-year-old Ketchum girl and a 17-year-old Hailey boy, sustained minor injuries.
The Blaine County Sheriff's Office did not provide the victim's name. However, multiple sources in the community have confirmed with the Idaho Mountain Express that Lily Ann Dean was in fact the victim killed.
The Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to the accident around 4:15 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle, a tan 2001 GMC Yukon, was driven by the 16-year-old girl. The boy, from Hailey, was seated in the front passenger seat and Dean was in the back seat.
The crash scene investigation indicated that the vehicle was traveling southbound when it left the highway on the right shoulder, returned to the lane, overcorrected and rolled one and a quarter turns, landing on the passenger side in the northbound lane.
At the scene, Dean was found unresponsive, and life-saving efforts were immediately begun by medical personnel. Dean was transported to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center and succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The driver and other passenger reported that they were wearing seatbelts but is still not known if Dean was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The driver and male passenger stated that a bee or wasp had gotten into the vehicle, which may have been a contributing factor to the crash.
The accident remains under investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
