The city of Hailey ranked in the top five safest towns in Idaho last year based on SafeHome.org’s analysis of FBI data regarding violent crime and property crime.
Hailey, population 8,112, ranked No. 2 behind Weiser, population 5,321.
According to the study, the violent crime rate in Hailey decreased 14.6 percent from 2017 to 2018, while property crime dropped 41.9 percent.
The next three top-ranked towns were Preston, Rupert and Rexburg.
“The state overall has a very low crime rate,” the study reported. “The combination of farming and religious communities creates a safe environment throughout the state.”
The lowest-rated Idaho city in terms of safety was Chubbuck, just north of Pocatello, the study reported.
