Hailey Mayor Fritz Haemmerle presented a draft budget to the Hailey City Council for fiscal 2020 on Monday that would utilize recent additions to city coffers to improve city infrastructure, increase maintenance and support public transportation.
The $15,551,439 budget, if approved on Aug. 12, will be one half of 1 percent above the 2019 budget of $15,466,946, an increase of $84,492.
“Building permits were overestimated in our last budget,” states a city memo. “We have decreased building permit projections to a more realistic figure, down by $52,000.”
The budget proposes 3 percent overall salary increase for city employees, including a 7 percent overall increase for the street department, and a 4 percent increase for Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter.
The Hailey Police Department will launch an enforcement plan they expect will bring in an additional $50,000 in court fines. A $33,000 expense is proposed for the purchase of video cameras in six police cars to provide a record of stop and arrest activity, using supplemental funding from the Seagraves Foundation.
