Stage 1 fire restrictions for the city of Ketchum have been implemented by interim Ketchum Fire Chief Tom Bowman. The restrictions apply to all public and private lands, roads and trails within Ketchum.
Under the restrictions, unattended fires and campfires are prohibited, as is smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, building or designated recreation site, or in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.
There are some exemptions to the restrictions. People with a written permit authorizing prohibited acts, people using fire fueled solely by liquid petroleum or liquid petroleum gas fuels in an area cleared of flammable material, or any federal, state or local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty are exempt.
The restrictions will remain in place until further notice. For additional information, contact the Ketchum Fire Department at 208-726-7805.
