Since meteorologists began recording Idaho’s average monthly temperatures in 1895, October’s mean temperature has hovered around 44 degrees Fahrenheit.
That all changed last month with an average temperature of 36.7 degrees recorded. The average combines high and low temperatures recorded each day of the month.
According to Steve Parker, lead forecaster with the National Weather Service in Boise, the wintry weather across Idaho was caused by the jet stream migrating south from Alaska.
Temperatures this month have so far exceeded seasonable averages, though. The Wood River Valley, which has an average high temperature of 42 in November, should see more weather in the mid-50s this week.
