Four sessions totaling more than 20 hours of discussion were not enough to settle contract negotiations between the Blaine County School District and the Blaine County Education Association, which represents its teachers.
Last Thursday, the two sides couldn’t agree on a salary and benefits package that would govern work during the 2019-20 school year, sending bargaining into overtime. The two sides will meet at least one more time, starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, in the Minnie Moore Room of the Community Campus in Hailey.
“We’re at the point where we’re heading more towards mediation than interest-based bargaining,” outside facilitator Blas Telleria told the group of teachers, administrators and trustees. “Without other options or considerations, I don’t think there’s an option out there that could be supported by all parties.
“You’re going to have to think creatively one way or another, because we’re not meeting the needs of all parties.”
