Two of the three seats up for election to the Blaine County School District’s board of trustees this November are all but filled, but the third will have a full ballot.
None of the incumbents filed to run for re-election by the deadline last Friday, meaning a majority of the board will be new for 2019.
Barring a write-in challenger, former Hailey Mayor Keith Roark will take over for Trustee Ellen Mandeville, the current chairman of the board representing Zone 3, and mid-valley business owner Lara Stone will replace Trustee Kevin Garrison in Zone 5 next year.
Things are more competitive in the south county, where a trio of candidates filed to run for the Zone 1 seat vacated by Trustee Ryan Degn.
Bellevue Accountant Alexis Lindberg launched her campaign in mid-August. Amber Larna, of Carey, the former head of The Drug Coalition, followed suit. Jared Murphy, of Bellevue, a Hailey Police Department patrol officer, became the third candidate when he filed late last week.
The ballot won’t be finalized until next week. Write-in candidates need to file a declaration, too, due by Sept. 20. And after filing, candidates have until the 46th day before the election—Sept. 20 this year—to withdraw from the race.
The election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Check back with the Idaho Mountain Express this fall for more coverage of what’s up for a vote, and who is on the ballot.
