The Blaine County Bots conquered the competition in Idaho. Next stop: the world.

On March 2, both the sixth-grade robotics team of Johny Blacker, Charles Rollins, Orrie DeShields, Jonah Pettinger and McKay Wilson, and the seventh-grade team of Kameron Perron, Preston Kendall, Finn Wolfrom and Dylan Benson won the Tournament Champions trophies at Idaho VEX IQ Robotics Competition held at Syringa Middle School in Caldwell, qualifying them for the world championships in Louisville, Ky., later this year.

The School District’s robotics program was the first of its kind in Idaho, district spokeswoman Heather Crocker said. It’s now in its 10th year at Wood River High School and seventh at Wood River Middle School, though its open to students K-12.

“These kids have worked extremely hard and put in many, many hours before school to get where they are,” said Jeremy Silvis, Wood River Middle School teacher and robotics coach. “Their hard work paid off and they are now the top Middle School VEX IQ Robotics teams in the state.”
