The Blaine County commissioners extended contracts with three agencies to provide emergency medical services for fiscal 2020 on Tuesday, part of a slew of deals renewed during the board’s regular meeting.
Acting as the Blaine County Ambulance District, the three commissioners agreed to pay $1,164,335 to the city of Ketchum, $1,157,308 to Wood River Fire & Rescue and $80,568 to the Carey Rural Fire Protection District to cover the county. It also re-signed EMS Medical Director Dr. Terry O’Connor for another year, at a salary of $66,553.
The county Ambulance District collects tax money for medical services, but doesn’t operate its own department. Instead, it provides equipment, and pays fire departments to staff the fleet.
Meanwhile, former Ketchum Fire Chief Mike Elle also got a county deal. He’ll be reviewing construction projects outside of fire districts for Land Use and Building Services to make sure they meet fire code. Elle’s contract won’t exceed $2,500.
Hailey Community Development Director Lisa Horowitz will be working with the county, too. The commissioners agreed to a $22,000 contract to enlist her help updating the county’s comprehensive plan.
