A vehicle fire south of Bellevue forced the closure of state Highway 75 near its intersection with Glendale Road for about 40 minutes Wednesday evening.

The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday that the fire started at about 8:15 p.m. Traffic was diverted away from the blaze until it was extinguished by Wood River Fire and Rescue with the assistance of the Bellevue Fire Department.

Sheriff Gene Ramsey said the vehicle was a 1979 Land Rover, driven by 34-year-old Glendale Road resident James Jensen and registered to Kenneth Dudunakis, 57, who has addresses at both Glendale Road and in Bellevue, Wash.

Ramsey said the fire started in the engine compartment and spread to the interior the vehicle, causing extensive damage.

The sheriff said Jensen was not injured and was unable to extinguish the blaze before in spread from the engine compartment to the vehicle’s tires and interior.
