Ketchum resident Lily Ann Dean, 15, was killed in a rollover accident Saturday on state Highway 75 north of Ketchum.

Without providing Dean’s name, the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office reported in a press release Monday that a 15-year-old girl was found unresponsive at the scene of the accident and was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center following transport. Two other youths, a 16-year-old female, of Hailey, who was the driver, and a 17-year-old male, also of Hailey, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Multiple sources in the community have confirmed with the Idaho Mountain Express that Lily Ann Dean was the victim killed.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred late afternoon near Lake Creek Drive. Deputies responded around 4:15 p.m. to the scene, where a tan 2001 GMC Yukon had been traveling southbound and had left the highway on the right shoulder, returned to the lane, overcorrected and rolled one and a quarter turns, landing on the passenger side in the northbound lane.

Life-saving efforts were performed on Dean at the scene before she was transported to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, the Sheriff’s Office stated.

The driver and other passenger reported that they were wearing seatbelts but is still not known if Dean was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The driver and male passenger stated that a bee or wasp had gotten into the vehicle, which may have been a contributing factor to the crash.

As of Tuesday, no new updates to the investigation have emerged, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A funeral service for Dean has been scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Limelight Room at the Sun Valley Inn. For additional information, or to send flowers, visit
