One man was transported by air ambulance to Boise following a head-on collision Friday evening on state Highway 75 near Cold Springs Drive.
According to a press release from the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and first responders were called just after 5:30 p.m.
Daniel Paul Casali, 72, a resident of Cold Springs subdivision, was driving southbound in a black 1998 Audi A4 when he pulled into the center lane of the highway in preparation for turning onto Cold Springs Drive. Ned Raymond Flanagan, 36, of Ketchum, was traveling northbound on Highway 75 in the left lane and, for unknown reasons, drifted into the center lane and collided head-on with Casali’s vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“As a result of the impact, Casali’s vehicle rotated approximately 180 degrees, coming to a rest facing northbound,” the press release stated.
Casali sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical center before being flown by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise. Flanagan reported only minor injuries and was cited for failing to maintain his lane. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
As of Tuesday, Casali was still a patient at Saint Alphonsus, according to the hospital.
