Hailey places police chief on administrative leave

Jeff Gunter

Hailey Mayor Martha Burke has placed Police Chief Jeff Gunter on paid administrative leave, the city announced on Wednesday. The city provided no further details.

“There are protocols when sensitive issues arise,” Burke said in a statement. “I am following those proper procedures.”

Contacted by the Idaho Mountain Express, Burke declined to comment Tuesday night. She is not taking interviews, according to City Administrator Heather Dawson.

“There is nothing to report at this juncture except that [Burke] is doing what is required on behalf of the city,” Dawson said in statement.

Assistant Police Chief Steve England also declined to comment on Tuesday. On Wednesday, England said that Gunter was out for the week.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates. For a full story, see Friday’s edition of the Idaho Mountain Express.
