A Hailey man faces a felony charge of aggravated battery following an alleged altercation after which the victim received seven stiches.
Joel Elizarras-Razo, 39, was charged on Aug. 26 for an incident that allegedly occurred at the Silver Dollar Saloon in Bellevue on Aug. 4. According to a probable-cause affidavit written by Bellevue Marshal Isaiah E. Day, he was called to the scene of a reported battery at the bar around 1 a.m.
According to the affidavit, after a mild verbal altercation between Elizarras-Razo and the alleged victim’s boyfriend, Elizarras-Razo stepped out of the bar and then quickly re-entered and approached the victim and her boyfriend. While standing behind his wife, Elizarras-Razo allegedly threw a glass beer bottle directly at the alleged victim’s face. The bottle allegedly struck the chin and mouth area of the alleged victim and she was transported by private vehicle to St. Luke’s Wood River hospital, where seven stiches were required to close the wounds.
Elizarras-Razo allegedly left the bar before police arrived, and when they went to his residence in Hailey, no one answered the door. A warrant was issued on Aug. 26 and Elizarras-Razo was arrested on Aug. 28 and had an initial appearance in 5th District Magistrate Court that day.
The case is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 4, at which time the prosecutor must present sufficient evidence for the case to be prosecuted as a felony. If convicted, Elizarras-Razos would face a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
