Rene Rodriguez, a former sheriff’s deputy in Blaine County and a former sheriff of Lincoln County, was arrested Friday in Twin Falls County following an indictment charging him with sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 16.
The felony crime, according to court records, allegedly occurred in 1998. A Twin Falls County grand jury indicted Rodriguez on Oct. 9 and he was arrested on Oct. 11 in Twin Falls and had an initial appearance on the same day, according to court records. As of Tuesday, no subsequent court hearings had been scheduled in the Twin Falls case and Rodriguez remained in the Twin Falls County jail.
Rodriguez also faces seven felony charges in Blaine County following an indictment by a grand jury in April. He is charged with four counts of lewd conduct with a minor under 16, one count of sexual abuse of a minor under 16 and two counts of rape, all alleged to have occurred between 2005 and 2014, when the alleged victim was 9-17 years old.
In the Blaine County case, Rodriguez is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on Oct. 30. His jury trial in Blaine County is scheduled for Nov. 19.
According to the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, Rodriguez was a deputy between December 2004 and September 2011, and resigned voluntarily from his position. Rodriguez was elected sheriff of Lincoln County in 2016 and resigned from that position following his initial arrest in April on the Blaine County charges.
