No citation was issued following an accident in which a pedestrian was hit by a car Sunday morning south of Bellevue.
According to the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Baseline Road just before 10:30 a.m. for a report of an accident.
Following an investigation at the scene of the crash, deputies determined that Manuel A. Chavez-Silva, 72, of Bellevue, was hit by a silver 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Sergio Vallepasillas, 22, of Bellevue, after the Ford was unable to stop due to icy conditions.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Vallepasillas was traveling west when he approached a tractor and hay trailer parked on the south side of the road facing east. Chavez-Silva jumped off the trailer and attempted to cross the road to open a gate. Vallepasillas was unable to stop and struck Chavez-Silva in the face with his driver’s side mirror, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Chavez-Silva was initially transported to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center near Ketchum and later flown to Saint Alphonsus hospital in Boise. According to a media relations representative for Saint Alphonsus, Chavez-Silva remained in critical condition Tuesday.
