A lightning storm on Aug. 18 caused electrical issues at the Carey School, though officials said they don’t think it will affect the first few school days.

Blaine County School District spokeswoman Heather Crocker said lightning caused operational problems with the fire systems, the water irrigation system pump and the district’s connection to the heating and cooling systems.

As of Monday, Crocker said, the maintenance and IT crew fixed most problems, except for the fire suppression system and irrigation from the canal, though irrigation from the well was occurring. She said they haven’t verified that lightning actually struck the school, and said she does not expect it to either affect teachers’ first week this week or students’ return Aug. 29.
