Carey firefighter and EMT Hyrum L. Nielsen died in a motorcycle crash on Little Wood Reservoir Road near Hunt Lane in Carey on Sunday night.
According to the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 9:22 p.m. and found Nielsen, 23, dead at the scene. According to an initial investigation of the crash, Nielsen was driving a black 1982 Suzuki motorcycle, traveling north on Little Reservoir Road near Hunt Lane, when he left the road on the west shoulder, hit a tree and was ejected from the bike. Nielsen was wearing a helmet, according to the sheriff’s news release issued Tuesday.
“The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of Nielsen, and to the Carey Community,” Sheriff Steve Harkins said in the press release. “Nielsen was a Carey Firefighter and EMT, and we are very sorry to yet again lose another member of our community and a fellow first responder to a tragic accident.”
