Opera singer Jessica Jones will deliver her musical talent at the Sun Valley Opera on Monday, July 16. She is set to perform in Carole Lewis and Ted Walczak’s home in Hailey.
Jones has come a long way in her years of singing. She has performed with Santa Fe Opera, Sarasota Opera, American Lyric Theater and Utah Opera. According to a release, critics have described Jones’ style as “fabulous,” “astonishing” and “thrilling.”
After receiving a master’s degree in performance from the Morres School of Music, Jones has taken on different kinds of genres, including contemporary opera as well as early music. She’s gained a lot of attention for her interpretation of bel canto and American opera.
She has plenty more gigs coming up. They include “The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs” as Chrisann Brennan with Santa Fe Opera and Euridice in “Orfeo ed Euridice” with Florida Grand Opera.
In a note written by Jones on the Sun Valley Opera website, she revealed that it was her family who gave her the inspiration to become a musician.
“My mother is a pianist and one of my favorite memories growing up was listening to her play,” she said. “She was the pianist for the church and I often sang with the church choir. My grandmother also listened to classical music and she sang around the house all the time. My father grew up playing the piano and is a talented poet.”
Jones performed in musical theater, including “Bye Bye Birdie” and “Les Miserables.” But it was when she was rehearsing as Barbarina in “Le nozze di Figaro” that she realized what she really wanted to do.
“I was fascinated by the behind-the-scenes process and decided that I wanted to be an opera singer during that production,” she said.
Jones’ performance with the Sun Valley Opera, accompanied by pianist Sean Rogers, will begin at 6:30 p.m. Guests will have access to some great music as well as wine and appetizers.
